Being indifferent to evil matters

10:35 / 09.11.2019 2306 Reading mode + -

The author opens a special chapter on the most important issue in the chapter on faith. This is a matter of increasing or decreasing faith, a matter that has caused much controversy among our scholars. But the controversies of the scholars of ahli sunna wal jamaa are in the image, not in the essence. Some say directly, "There is more or less faith," while some say, "Faith is one but the actions or deeds related to it are more or less."

Allah Taala says:

'The believers are those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and when His revelations are recited to them, they strengthen them in faith, and upon their Lord they rely.' (Surah al-Anfal verse 2)

Commentary: In this verse, Allah says that the faith of the true believers increases when they recite the Quran. This is one of the three attributes of a true believer in this verse.

Abu said al-Khudri said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah may Allah bless him and grant him peace say: If any one you see something objectionable, he should change it with his hand if he can change it with his hand. But if he cannot (do so), he should do it with his tongue, and if he cannot (do so with) his tongue he should do it in his heart, that being the weakest form of faith.

Other narrators quote this hadith in terms of its amr ma'ruf (order to good) and nahy munkar (discourage from evil). Our author cites the issue in chapter of increasing or lesser faith. It does not matter. In this hadith, the Prophet peace and blessings of Allah be upon him explains that the believer will be strong or weak in his faith, depending on the attitude of the believer to the deeds that are denied by Islam.

“Munkar” is a deed that is bad and denounced by Sharia. A true believer cannot remain indifferent to what is happening in his community. When a believer sees something committing, he may be in three conditions:

1. To discourage the evil by hand

2. To discourage the evil by tongue

2. To discourage the evil by soul
